GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE WORKER
DEPARTMENT: PARKS AND RECREATION
JOB CLASSIFICATION: PART-TIME
PAY GRADE (UNDER 18): PT2
PAY GRADE (18 AND OVER): PT3
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general guidance and direction of the Golf Pro, Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent, this employee performs a variety of duties pertaining to all aspects of golf course maintenance, and Festival of Lights set up and take down in an outdoor environment. This position includes golf privileges.
HOURS
Generally 6am-2:30pm - Can be flexible depending on schedule and time of year
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs all duties pertaining to daily maintenance of the golf course including: mowing greens, tees, fairways, and roughs; sand trap maintenance including edging and raking sand traps. Responsible for hand watering greens, and dry areas, moving sprinklers, digging up and fixing sprinkler heads and valves. Responsible for hand weeding sand traps, weed trimming trees, sand trap edges, and fence lines.
Responsible for all aspects of setting up and maintaining light fixtures for the Festival of Lights. This includes, among other things, plugging in structures, wrapping lights around tree trunks, and lifting, carrying, and placing structures in preparation for the Festival of Lights.
Operates hand tools and power tools and small to large equipment including: shovel, landscape rake, drill, saw, loppers, utility golf cart, aerator, trencher, sand pro, mowers, dump truck and tractors; performs minor maintenance of tools and equipment used for course maintenance. Must be able to perform medium to heavy lifting as well moderate physical labor.
Responds to direction given by Supervisors. Occasionally performs essential duties on holidays and weekends.
Must have professional positive attitude with good communication skills. Must be productive while working alone and with others. Employee is expected to deal effectively and courteously with the public.
Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality requirements for this position. Must abide by all city policies and procedures. Must work well with others and be a team player.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High school graduation or equivalent
- Landscape maintenance experience is a plus
- Supervisory experience is a plus
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong emphasis on turf management including the application of fertilizer, herbicide, pesticides and fungicides.
- Maintenance and troubleshooting irrigation systems including basic hydraulics, design principles, matched precipitation rates, and programming.
- Tree and plant care, including pruning.
- Knowledge of: proper techniques in caring for maintenance of equipment, proper use and hazards of operation; department policies and procedures; basic spelling, and grammar.
- Basic skills in mechanics, and use of hand tools and equipment.
- Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making recommendations.
- Ability to supervise and delegate assignments to other employees; communicate effectively with coworkers and subordinates.
- Interact with public in a pleasant, courteous, and calm manner at all times.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships.
Special Qualifications. Must have valid Utah Driver License
