GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the supervision of Streets Division Foremen and the Streets Division Manager, performs a variety of general maintenance, service and repair on the city storm drain, street, walkway and parking lot systems. A Streets & Storm Water Operator II may be assigned responsibility for the following aspects.

  • Special Events
  • Street Sweeping
  • Tree Trimming
  • Weed Control
  • Welding
  • Mowing

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Safety Systems. Knowledge of the safety rules for Streets Division related equipment and tool operation and construction/maintenance work.

Places signs, barricades and other traffic control devices around work sites to protect employees and the public.

Streets & Storm Water Systems. Performs storm drain, streets, walkways and parking lot installation and maintenance. This includes but is not limited to: paving, leveling, chip seal, crack seal, concrete work, striping, snow plowing, sign work, flagging, weed abatement, flood control, pipe installation, pipe repair and vac/jet truck work.

Equipment Operation. Operates and directs the operation and maintenance of light, medium and heavy equipment including but not limited to the following:

  • Street Sweepers
  • Loaders
  • Backhoes and Trackhoes
  • Rollers
  • Forklifts
  • Mud Jacking Equipment
  • Vactor Jet Trucks
  • Pavers
  • Dump Trucks
  • Jack Hammers
  • Saws
  • Grinders
  • Air Compressors
  • Wrenches
  • Weed Trimmers
  • Pruners
  • Hammers
  • Shovels

Detects and reports mechanical problems with equipment to the Fleet Division.

Miscellaneous Duties as Assigned. Must be able to report to work on time as scheduled and abide by all city policies and procedures. Must work well with others and be a team player. Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to deal with the public in a pleasant and courteous manner in all circumstances.

Must live within 30 minutes' travel time from Spanish Fork's city limits in order to respond to emergencies.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Applicants will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug test.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

Physical Demands. Requires moderate to heavy physical activity. Required to push, pull or lift medium to heavy weights. Required to work in difficult working positions. May have to stand, walk, or sit in uncomfortable positions for extended periods.

Working Conditions. Exposure to adverse weather conditions, hazardous materials, chemicals and fumes, and prolonged high noise levels. Often works in and around vehicular traffic. May at times include exposure to high stress situations or environments, including contact with the public in confrontational or uncomfortable circumstances.

Hazards. Occupational safety and health hazards may be encountered under controlled conditions. May be required to work unconventional work hours or shifts.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS


  1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Experience: Four (4) years of experience, including two (2) years experience as Road Scholar Level 1.

  3. Utah CDL: Class A, with the ability to obtain tanker and hazardous material endorsements.

  4. CPR Certification: Required.

  5. Forklift Certification: Required.

  6. Flagging Certification: Required.

  7. Registered Stormwater Inspector (RSI) Certification: Within 4 years of hire date.

  8. Road Scholar Certification: Level 1 within 2 years of hire date.

  9. Traffic Control Certification: Technician.

  10. IS-100, IS-200, & IS-700 Certifications: Within one year of hire date.

  11. Mandatory for applicant to work on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week within a rotated schedule. Applicant must be able to respond to emergencies in 20 minutes.
