Under the direct supervision of the City Attorney or Assistant City Attorney, provides clerical support for the legal department of Spanish Fork City.


  • Prepares detailed court documents from police reports for use in court. Uses the court's e-filing system.
  • Maintains computer files.
  • Prepares subpoenas to officers and witnesses.
  • Prepares documents for the Legal Department, including court pleadings.
  • Performs filing, drafting of letters, contracts, easements, other legal correspondence, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Assists with litigation preparation for the city.
  • Types proposed ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other documents for the City Council meetings.
  • Updates and maintains the Municipal Code.
  • Qualifies for and runs rights of access criminal histories as part of the City's pre-hiring and volunteers background check.
  • Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality requirements for this position. Must abide by all city policies and procedures. Must work well with others and be a team player.
  • Applicants are required to submit to a criminal background check and drug test.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


  • Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Word processing, typing, and dictation skills. Requires the ability to change from one task to another quickly. Must be organized and have the ability to keep confidentiality. Must be able to form effective working relationships and represent the city in a professional manner.
  • Special Qualifications: Working knowledge of Microsoft Word. Needs to know or be willing to learn the Utah Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) e-filing system, the AOC's Exchange software program, and the Filevine case management software program. Must be able to maintain composure when dealing with irate and/or emotional members of the public. Assists with the supervision of interns.
