PUBLIC WORKS INSPECTOR I

Salary: $47,324-$70,986 ($22.75 to $34.13)
Job Status: FULL TIME

GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Engineering Division Manager or Assistant City Engineer, the Public Works Inspector I may be assigned responsibility for the following:
- Public Works Inspection
- Various Inspections for the Public Works Department
- Hold Pre-Construction Meetings
- Manage PEC
- As-Builts and Miscellaneous Surveying
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Requirements
- Applicants will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug test
- Must be on time as scheduled
- Abide by all city policies and procedures
- Work well with others, be a team player
- Understand and follow both oral and written instructions
- Inspections
- Routine inspections and surveying of public infrastructure installation for city projects and development to ensure Spanish Fork city's construction standards are met
- Inspections includes: general SWPPP, installation of water, sewer, irrigation, storm water, electric and communication conduits, sidewalks, curb and gutter, and streets
- Tracking and documenting completion and approval of infrastructure
- Keeping detailed logs of time spent inspecting for billing
- Calculate bond estimates and make recommendations for bond releases
- Surveys
- City utilities inspected and installed using a GPS system
- Assist with utility mapping and Blue Stakes
- Miscellaneous Duties as Assigned

- May at times include exposure to high stress situations or environments, including contact with the public in confrontational or uncomfortable circumstances

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience
- Eight (8) years of experience in the area of public works
- Valid Driver's License
- APWA Certified Public Infrastructure (CPII)
- Required within three (3) years of hire date
- Water Distribution II & Wastewater Collections II Certifications
- Required within three (3) years of hire date
- Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) Certification
- Required within three (3) years of hire date
- IS-100, IS-200, & IS-700 Certifications
- Within one (1) year of hire date
- Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of public works operations and subdivision development
- Ability to analyze construction plan/profile drawings, utility maps and city construction standards
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Complete mathematical calculations
- Basic skills in operating computers and the ability to use Microsoft Excel
- Must be able to deal with the public in a pleasant and courteous manner in all circumstances
- Preference given to applicants with knowledge and experience with surveying/mapping using GPS systems
