GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Engineering Division Manager, will perform skilled work coordinating blue stakes of city utilities for GIS Mapping. A Blue Stakes Technician II may be assigned responsibility for the following.

  • Blue Staking
  • Surveying As-Builts
  • Mapping As-Builts

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Blue Stake Systems. Under the direct supervision of the Blue Stakes Supervisor, locate and accurately mark City utility infrastructure (Blue Staking) using BlueReview and GPS survey equipment and electronic tracking devices. Coordinate with the Public Works Department, City Inspectors, Contractors, and field personnel as needed to locate city utilities.

Interpret maps and GIS data using the GeoXH GPS System to accurately determine the location of city utilities.

Develop and maintain records of requested Blue Stakes and completed work.

Observe and survey facility installation during construction processes as it relates to Blue Stakes and as-builts.

Organize field data related to utility infrastructure with survey grade GPS equipment.

Using GIS and other appropriate software, update city utility maps as more accurate utility data is observed and collected

Miscellaneous Duties as Assigned. Must be able to report to work on time as scheduled and abide by all city policies and procedures. Must work well with others and be a team player. Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

Physical Demands. Requires moderate physical activity. Required to push, pull, or lift medium weights. Required to work in difficult working positions. May have to stand, walk, or sit in uncomfortable positions.

Working Conditions. Work will be performed in an office environment and outdoors with exposure to adverse weather conditions, hazardous materials, chemicals and fumes, and prolonged high noise levels. Often works in and around vehicular traffic. May at times include exposure to high-stress situations or environments, including contact with the public in confrontational or uncomfortable circumstances.

Hazards. Occupational safety and health hazards may be encountered under controlled conditions. May be required to work unconventional work hours or shifts.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Four (4) years experience in Blue Stakes or eight (8) years in related fields.
  • Valid Driver's License: Required.
  • IS-100, IS-200, & IS-700 Certifications: Within one year of hire date.
  • Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Must have knowledge of electrical, communication, water, stormwater and wastewater utility transmission and distribution systems, their components, and system design. Knowledge of construction standards and practices as they relate to utility installation.
    • Knowledge of Blue Staking equipment and software including GPS Operating Systems.
